Pharmacological Effects: Piroxicam is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that works by inhibiting the production of prostaglandins, which are substances in the body that cause pain and inflammation. By reducing prostaglandin levels, piroxicam helps alleviate symptoms such as swelling, pain, and stiffness.
Clinical Trials: In a randomized controlled trial published in the Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, Finalgel (piroxicam) gel was compared to diclofenac gel for the treatment of acute musculoskeletal injuries. The study found that both gels were equally effective in reducing pain and improving function, with no significant difference in adverse effects between the two treatments.
