The main active ingredient is mesazalin.

Pharmacological properties
Pentasa belongs to a number of intestinal anti-inflammatory drugs. The drug has no systemic effect, but only affects the inflamed areas of the intestine.
Reduces the synthesis of inflammatory mediators, reduces the amount of foods that affect tissue damage and contribute to their further destruction.
Mesalazine works to prevent colorectal cancer that occurs after ulcerative colitis and also breaks the bonds that lead to cancer due to colitis.
The drug is mainly absorbed in the small intestine and enters the blood plasma after 15 minutes.

Contraindications

Children
Not used to treat children under 2 years of age. In tablet form, it is used for children from 6 years old.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding period
In the first trimester, for serious medical reasons, taking Pentasa is acceptable. If the woman’s condition is satisfactory, then a month before giving birth, the drug is stopped.
Breastfeeding and the course of the drug are incompatible. Breastfeeding will have to be interrupted when this drug is prescribed.

Mode of application
The oral forms of Pentasa (tablets and granules) are taken orally whole, without crushing or chewing. Wash down with any liquid.
The dosage and duration of treatment is determined by the doctor.
The recommended daily dose is 4 g for enteritis, ulcerative colitis or as a maintenance agent for Crohn’s disease. The dose for maintenance therapy in ulcerative colitis is 2 grams. The daily dose of washes is divided into several doses.

Overdose
There is not enough information about drug overdose.
However, theoretically, symptoms such as dehydration can appear – hyperventilation of the lungs, hypoglycemia and an acid-base imbalance in the body.
