Scientific Evidence:
Rivaroxaban, the active ingredient in Xarelto, is a direct factor Xa inhibitor that selectively blocks the active site of factor Xa, an important component in the coagulation cascade. By inhibiting factor Xa, rivaroxaban prevents the formation of thrombin, thereby reducing the risk of blood clot formation.
Clinical trials have demonstrated the efficacy of Xarelto in preventing venous thromboembolism in patients undergoing orthopedic surgery. A study by Eriksson BI et al. showed that rivaroxaban was non-inferior to enoxaparin in preventing venous thromboembolism post-hip replacement surgery, with a similar safety profile.
Additional Information:
It is important to follow the prescribed dosage and administration instructions for Xarelto to ensure optimal efficacy and safety. In case of a missed dose, patients should take the tablet as soon as possible on the same day and continue with the regular dosing schedule.
Patients should be aware of the signs of bleeding and seek immediate medical attention if they experience any unusual bleeding while taking Xarelto.
