Description

Cardura (Doxazosin Mesylate) Tablets 4 mg – Pack of 30 Tablets

Composition

The active ingredient in Cardura tablets is doxazosin mesylate. Each tablet contains 4 mg of doxazosin.

Mechanism of Action

Doxazosin mesylate, a selective alpha-1 adrenergic receptor blocker, works by dilating blood vessels and relaxing smooth muscle in the prostate, leading to decreased blood pressure and improved urinary symptoms in BPH.

Pharmacological Properties

Cardura (Doxazosin) is a quinazoline compound that selectively blocks alpha-1 adrenergic receptors, resulting in vasodilation and decreased peripheral vascular resistance.

Indications for Use

Cardura is indicated for the management of hypertension to control blood pressure and for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) to improve urinary symptoms.

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to doxazosin, other quinazolines, or any component of the product.
  • Avoid use during pregnancy and lactation as safety has not been established.

Side Effects

Common side effects may include dizziness, fatigue, headache, hypotension, and nasal congestion. Rare but serious side effects may include priapism and syncope.

Usage Instructions

The recommended starting dose is 1 mg daily, taken orally with breakfast. Dosage may be titrated gradually based on individual response to 2 mg, 4 mg, or a maximum of 8 mg daily. Tablets should be swallowed whole with an adequate amount of water.

Benefits Compared to Analogues

Cardura offers the advantage of once-daily dosing, convenient titration for optimal response, and a well-established safety profile compared to other alpha-1 blockers.

Suitable Patient Groups

Cardura is suitable for adult patients with hypertension or benign prostatic hyperplasia. Dosage adjustment may be necessary for elderly patients or those with hepatic impairment. Safety and efficacy in pediatric patients have not been established.

Storage and Shelf Life
