Scientific Evidence

Glimepiride, the active ingredient in Dimaril tablets, belongs to the sulfonylurea class of drugs. It works by stimulating the release of insulin from pancreatic beta cells and increasing the sensitivity of peripheral tissues to insulin. Several studies have demonstrated the efficacy of glimepiride in lowering blood glucose levels and improving glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes.

Additional Information

It is important to monitor blood glucose levels regularly while taking Dimaril tablets to adjust the dosage as needed. Patients should be educated about the signs and symptoms of hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia. Lifestyle modifications such as a healthy diet and regular exercise are essential components of diabetes management.

Pharmacological Effects: Glimepiride acts by increasing insulin release from the pancreas, which helps lower blood sugar levels. It also improves insulin sensitivity in peripheral tissues, allowing for better glucose utilization.

Clinical Trials: Clinical trials have shown that glimepiride is effective in reducing HbA1c levels and improving long-term glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes. A study by Schernthaner et al. (2007) demonstrated that glimepiride was non-inferior to other antidiabetic agents in terms of efficacy and safety.
