Scientific Evidence:
Domperidone works by blocking dopamine receptors in the brain and gut. This action helps to increase the movement of the stomach and intestines, which can improve symptoms of nausea and vomiting. Studies have shown that domperidone is effective in treating these symptoms, especially in conditions like gastroparesis.
Additional Information:
It is important to follow the prescribed dosage and not exceed the recommended amount to avoid potential side effects. Domidon tablets should be stored in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Consult your healthcare provider before using this medication, especially if you have any underlying medical conditions or are taking other medications.
Pharmacological Effects:
Domperidone acts as a dopamine antagonist, primarily targeting the D2 and D3 receptor subtypes. By blocking these receptors, domperidone increases the release of acetylcholine, which enhances gastrointestinal motility. This mechanism of action makes it effective in treating conditions associated with delayed gastric emptying, such as diabetic gastroparesis.
Clinical Trials and Comparative Effectiveness:
In a comparative study published in the Journal of Gastroenterology, domperidone was found to be as effective as metoclopramide in relieving symptoms of gastroparesis with fewer side effects. The study concluded that domperidone can be a valuable alternative for patients who do not tolerate metoclopramide well.
