Lamifen 15 g Active substance
TERBINAFIN

Pharmacodynamics
Terbinafine is an alilamine and has a broad spectrum of antifungal effects. Terbinafine in an appropriate concentration has a fungicidal effect against dermatophytes, molds and some dimorphic fungi. Activity against yeast fungi, depending on their type, can be fungicidal or fungistatic.

Terbinafine specifically inhibits the early stage of sterol biosynthesis in the fungal cell membrane. This leads to a deficiency of ergosterol and to intracellular accumulation of squalene, which causes the death of the fungal cell. The effect of terbinafine is carried out by inhibiting the enzyme squalene epoxidase in the cell membrane of the fungus. This enzyme does not belong to the cytochrome P 450 system. Terbinafine does not affect the metabolism of hormones or other drugs.

Pharmacokinetics
When applied topically, the drug quickly begins to act, with the help of it you can achieve an effect with short-term treatment (7-14 days).

When applied topically, less than 5% of the dose is absorbed, therefore, the absorption of terbinafine into the systemic circulation is negligible.

Indications
Fungal skin infections caused by dermatophytes such as Trichophyton (eg T. rubrum, T. mentagrophytes, T. verrucosum, T. violaceum), Microsporum canis and Epidermophyton floccosum, eg athlete’s foot (athlete’s foot), inguinal dermatophytosis ( “Jockey’s itch”), dermatophytosis of the trunk (“ringworm”). Pityriasis versicolor caused by Pityrosporum orbiculare (also known as Malassezia furfur).

Lamifen 15 g Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to terbinafine or to any component of the drug.

Interaction with other medicinal products
Unknown.

Application methods
The duration of treatment depends on the disease and the severity of its course.

Apply the gel to the skin once a day. Before applying the gel, it is necessary to clean and dry the affected areas. Apply the gel in a thin layer to the affected skin and adjacent areas and rub in lightly. In case of infections accompanied by a tear of skin folds (under the mammary glands, interdigital, between the buttocks, in the groin area), the places with the applied gel can be covered with gauze, especially at night.

Average duration of treatment:

– epidermophytosis of the feet (mіzhpaltseva): 1 time per day for 1 week;

– Inguinal ringworm and trunk ringworm: 1 time per day for 1 week;

– versicolor versicolor: 1 time per day for 1 week.

For elderly patients, there is no need to adjust the dose.

Overdose
The low systemic absorption of terbinafine as a topical gel results in a very low likelihood of overdose. In case of accidental use of the drug inside, one should expect the development of such side effects as with an overdose of the drug Lamifen in the form of tablets: headache, nausea, pain in the epigastric region and dizziness. Therapy is symptomatic. If the gel enters the stomach, if necessary, induce vomiting.
