Metrogyl composition
active substance: metronidazole;
1 g of gel contains 10 mg of metronidazole;
Excipients: propyl parahydroxybenzoate (E 216), propylene glycol, carbomer 940, disodium edetate, sodium hydroxide, methyl parahydroxybenzoate (E 218), purified water.

Dosage form
Gel for external use.

Pharmacological properties
Metronidazole is a synthetic imidazole derivative. Metrogyl is bactericidal, bacteriostatic against a wide range of anaerobic microbes and bacteria. In the case of topical application, it is capable of having an antiprotozoal, antimicrobial and anti-acne effect. Has negligible antioxidant efficacy. Does not affect demodex, telangiectasia.

Contraindications

Application during pregnancy and lactation
It has no contraindications for use in the II and III trimester of pregnancy, but it should not be used during lactation.

Method of administration and dosage
Metrogyl is intended for external use. The affected area is smeared with a thin layer of this gel, after having carried out its antiseptic treatment. It is permissible to cover this area with a bandage. The effect can be observed 14 days after starting therapy with this drug.
After the procedure, you should wash your hands to avoid getting the drug on the mucous membranes and food.

Overdose
There is no reliable data on overdose.

Side effects
External use eliminates the likelihood of side effects in patients that are characteristic of the use of metronidazole preparations in the case of oral administration.
However, in rare cases, some reactions of an allergic nature were observed, which are in the form of irritations on the skin at the site of application of the drug – itching, burning, redness, swelling. Occasionally, there is a feeling of dryness or tightness of the skin.
Unpleasant sensations disappear after discontinuation of therapy with this drug.

Storage conditions and periods
Metrogyl is stored for up to 3 years at a temperature not exceeding 25 ° C.
