Description
Naftizin composition
active substance: naphazoline;
1 ml of the drug contains naphazoline nitrate 1 mg;
excipients: boric acid, water for injection.
Dosage form
Nasal drops.
Pharmacological properties
Naftizin has a pronounced vasoconstrictor effect on peripheral vessels due to its effect on α-adrenergic receptors. When applied to mucous membranes, it reduces edema, hyperemia, exudation, which helps to facilitate nasal breathing in rhinitis. Naphazoline promotes the opening and expansion of the outlet ducts of the paranasal sinuses and Eustachian tubes, improves the outflow of secretions and prevents bacteria from settling.

Contraindications
The drug is not prescribed for patients who suffer from severe forms of atherosclerosis, arterial hypertension, chronic and atrophic rhinitis, thyrotoxicosis, increased heart rate, diabetes mellitus, angle-closure glaucoma, naphazoline intolerance. Also, the drug is not used in joint therapy with monoamine oxidase inhibitors or within two weeks after stopping them.
Care should be taken to prescribe Naphthyzin if the patient has a history of ischemic heart disease, benign enlargement of the prostate gland, pheochromocytoma.
Children
Naftizin 0.05% can be used in children aged 3 to 15 years. Naftizin 0.1% can be used in children over 15 years of age.
Use during pregnancy and lactation
The use of the drug in the therapy of nursing and pregnant women is justified only in case of extreme necessity.
Method of administration and dosage
Naftizin is instilled into each nasal passage, tilting the head back slightly and tilting it to the right when instilled into the right nostril and to the left when instilled into the left nostril.
For medicinal purposes. Adults and children over 15 years old – 1-3 drops of 0.05% – 0.1% solution in each nasal passage.
Children aged 3–6 years are instilled with a solution of 0.05%, 1–2 drops in each nasal passage; children 6-15 years old – 2 drops in each nasal passage.
Apply 3 times a day, but not more than 4 hours later.
The drug should not be used for more than 5 days for adults and more than 3 days for children.
Naftizin can be reapplied only after a few days.
In case of nosebleeds, use tampons moistened with a 0.05% solution of the drug.
For diagnostic purposes (for example, for the diagnosis and treatment of nasal polyps). After cleaning the nasal cavity, instill 3-4 drops of a 0.05% – 0.1% solution into each nasal passage or inject a tampon soaked in a 0.05% – 0.1% solution for 2-3 minutes.
In case of edema of the vocal cords, inject 1–2 ml of the drug with a laryngeal syringe.
Overdose
In case of accidental ingestion of the drug inside, the development of systemic effects of the drug is possible: increased sweating, headaches, nervous overexcitation, tremors of the limbs, tachycardia, increased blood pressure and a feeling of palpitations. In especially severe cases, the appearance of pallor of the skin, fever, respiratory failure, nausea, mental disorders, drowsiness, respiratory arrest and coma is possible.
In case of intentional or accidental overdose, you should immediately stop taking the drug, induce vomiting in the patient, give him a gastric lavage, ensure the intake of activated charcoal and receive symptomatic treatment.
Side effects
During treatment with Naftizin, patients may experience headaches, tachycardia, nausea, redness of the skin, hypertension, swelling of the nasal mucosa, and atrophic rhinitis.
Storage conditions and periods
It is recommended to keep Naftizin in places that are protected from children and light. Shelf life before opening the bottle is 3 years, after – 30 days.
