Scientific Evidence
Cefpodoxime, the active ingredient in Pecef, is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic with a broad spectrum of activity against many gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. Studies have shown that cefpodoxime is effective in treating various bacterial infections, including those resistant to other antibiotics.
Research published in the Journal of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy demonstrated the efficacy of cefpodoxime in the treatment of community-acquired pneumonia, showing high rates of clinical success and bacterial eradication.
Additional Information
It is important to complete the full course of Pecef as prescribed by your doctor, even if you start to feel better before the course is finished. Stopping the medication prematurely can lead to the infection not being fully treated and the bacteria becoming resistant to antibiotics.
If you experience severe diarrhea, abdominal pain, or blood in your stools while taking Pecef, contact your healthcare provider immediately as these may be signs of a serious intestinal condition.
