Prelaxan Composition and form of release
The active component of the drug is lactulose.
This drug is available in the form of a syrup, in plastic bottles of 900 grams.
Indications
The drug Prelaxan helps to improve bowel function, namely its motor-evacuation function, while having a mild laxative effect.
This drug is indicated for the following conditions:
- with chronic constipation of various origins,
- with constipation arising from pregnancy,
- patients suffering from hemorrhoids, in order to soften the stool,
- for the prevention and treatment of constipation caused by the use of certain medications, the side effect of which is constipation,
- before surgery on the colon, as well as in the anal area,
- with constipation in patients in the postoperative period,
- when preparing a patient for a colon examination (eg, irrigoscopy, colonoscopy).
Contraindications
It is forbidden to use laxative syrup in conditions such as intestinal obstruction, galactosemia (congenital metabolic disease, which is associated with a deficiency of the enzyme galactose-1-phosphaturidyltransferase), as well as hypersensitivity and individual intolerance to the components of this drug.
Application during pregnancy and lactation
The drug Prelax is allowed to be used for constipation in women during the indicated periods.
Method of administration and dosage
Adult patients are advised to receive Prelaxan laxative syrup, two to six tablespoons per day. This drug must be taken with food.
The clinical effect of the use of laxative syrup, as a rule, occurs after two to three days from the beginning of its use.
The duration of use of Prelaxan syrup is usually between two weeks and three months.
When using laxatives based on lactulose in higher doses for a long time, it is necessary to regularly monitor the electrolyte composition of the blood in order to identify possible deviations.
Overdose
Symptoms of an acute overdose of Prelax include diarrhea and abdominal pain. These symptoms, depending on their severity, indicate the need to reduce the dose or discontinue use.
In case of an overdose of the drug, the patient undergoes symptomatic treatment.
Side effects
In the first days of using this drug, the patient may experience flatulence (bloating), a feeling of discomfort in the abdomen. The listed negative phenomena, as a rule, disappear on their own after two to three days.
Long-term use of the drug in high doses (40-60 milliliters) may also cause abdominal pain and diarrhea. In this case, it is required to halve the dosage of the drug.
In the case of using syrup in high doses (60-100 milliliters) for a long time (within three to six weeks), there is a possibility of electrolyte imbalance.
Storage conditions and periods
The syrup has a shelf life of two years. The opened packaging of the drug Prelax may be stored for no longer than twenty days.
Keep Prelaxan syrup out of the reach of children. The storage temperature of this medicinal product should be at least 0 ° C.
