Proteflazid is an antiviral herbal medicine. Proteflazid is prescribed for the treatment of viral diseases, prevention of relapses caused by: herpes simplex virus 1, 2 types (Herpes simplex); herpes zoster virus, chickenpox type 3 (Herpes zoster); herpesvirus type 4 (Epstein-Barr) – chronic and active forms; herpes simplex virus type 5 (cytomegalovirus).
Description
Proteflazid Composition and form of release
Available as drops (30 ml or 50 ml). 1 ml of drops contains 1 ml of Proteflazid liquid extract (flavonoids not less than 0.32 mg / ml in terms of rutin; carboxylic acids not less than 0.30 mg / ml in terms of malic acid) from Herba Deschampsia caespitosa L. (Pike herbs sod) and Herba Calamagrostis epigeios L. (grass of the ground reed) 1: 1. Extraction solvent: ethyl alcohol 96%.
Pharmacological properties
Proteflazid is an antiviral herbal medicine. The flavonoids in its composition inhibit the replication of DNA / RNA viruses both in vitro (in vitro) and in vivo (in a living organism). Studies have shown the antiviral effect of the drug against hepatitis viruses, HIV infection, herpes, human papillomaviruses, influenza, and other OPB (acute respiratory infections). The mechanism of its antiviral action (direct) consists in inhibition of virus-specific enzymes – DNA / RNA polymerases, reverse transcriptase, thymidine kinase, neuraminidase. The medicine has immunotropic properties. It protects the mucous membranes, normalizes the indices of local immunity (the amount of secretory immunoglobulin A, lactoferrin, lysozyme, C3 component of the complement). The drug is an inducer of the production of endogenous alpha-, gamma-interferons, increasing their amount to a physiologically active level, increasing the body’s nonspecific resistance to viral / bacterial infection.
The medicine has antioxidant activity, inhibits the course of free radical processes, thereby preventing the accumulation of lipid oxidation products, promotes recovery after an infection, adaptation to adverse conditions, and reduces intoxication. The drug is a regulator of apoptosis (programmed cell death), enhances the action of apoptosis-inducing substances, activates the enzyme caspase 9, thereby helping to eliminate cells affected by the virus, preventing the occurrence of chronic diseases against the background of a latent (latent) course of viral infection. This medicine prevents re-infection and lengthens the period of remission.
Indications
Proteflazid is prescribed for the treatment of viral diseases, prevention of relapses caused by:
- herpes simplex virus 1, 2 types (Herpes simplex);
- herpes zoster virus, chickenpox type 3 (Herpes zoster);
- herpesvirus type 4 (Epstein-Barr) – chronic and active forms;
- herpes simplex virus type 5 (cytomegalovirus).
Also prescribed for the treatment / prevention of influenza, incl. its pandemic strains, other OPBs.
It is used as part of a complex treatment:
- viral, fungal, bacterial infections, their associations (mycoplasma, chlamydia, ureaplasma, others);
- hepatitis B, C;
- HIV infection, AIDS.
It is indicated for etiotropic (aimed at the cause) therapy of mild / moderate forms of cervical dysplasia (CIN1, CIN2) caused by the human papillomavirus, incl. oncogenic strains. As part of the complex treatment of other forms of diseases caused by HPV, incl. oncogenic strains.
Contraindications
You can not prescribe Proteflazid for allergies to components, gastric / duodenal ulcer.
Application during pregnancy and lactation
When conducting research, mutagenic, teratogenic, fetotoxic, embryotoxic, carcinogenic effects were not revealed. Special studies of this effect of the drug on the human fetus have not been carried out, however, clinical experience of use in the I-III trimesters and during lactation did not reveal a negative effect.
Method of administration and dosage
Shake the medicine bottle before use.
The drug is dosed using a dropper. The required amount of medicine should be dripped into 1-2 tablespoons of water, taken 10-15 minutes before the intended meal.
Dosage depending on age: from birth to one year – 1 drop / day; 1-2 years – 1 drop x2 times / day; 2-4 years – 2 drops x2 times / day; 4–6 years – 4 drops x2 times / day; 6-9 years – 9 drops x2 times / day; 9–12 years old – 10 drops x2 times / day, from 12 years old and adults – 12–15 drops x2 times / day.
The duration of use depends on the indications, the course of the disease.
For the treatment / prevention of relapses of herpetic pharyngotonsillitis, gingivostomatitis, chickenpox; prevention of viral / bacterial infections associated with insufficient function of the immune system; complex treatment of bacterial, viral, fungal infections or their associations, it is recommended to take the medicine for a month.
For the treatment of herpetic eczema, herpetic eye lesions, herpetic meningitis, encephalitis, genital herpes, herpetic vesicular dermatitis, herpes zoster, active form of Epstein-Barr virus infection, cytomegalovirus infection, human papillomavirus infection, it is recommended to take the medicine continuously for 3 months.
With a recurrent course of a viral infection, courses of treatment are carried out 1-2 times a year (as recommended by a doctor).
The duration of treatment in children is similar to that in adults. The dose is prescribed according to the patient’s age. Treatment is carried out under the supervision of a doctor.
In the complex treatment of HIV infection, AIDS, viral hepatitis B and C, it is recommended to take the medicine continuously for 6-12 months. Treatment of hepatitis in HIV-infected patients is carried out before or after antiretroviral therapy.
For the treatment of influenza, other acute respiratory viral infections, the drug is used for 5-14 days, depending on the course of the disease. For prophylactic purposes, the drug is taken for 2–4 weeks in a dose that is half the therapeutic dose. During the epidemic, the drug intake can be extended up to 6 weeks.
