Composition

active substance: spiramycin;

1 tablet contains spiramycin 1,500,000 IU or 1 tablet contains 3,000,000 IU of spiramycin;

auxiliary substances: colloidal anhydrous silicon dioxide, magnesium stearate, pregelatinized starch, hydroxypropyl cellulose, carmellose sodium, microcrystalline cellulose; shell: titanium dioxide (E 171), macrogol 6000, hypromellose.

Medicinal form

Coated tablets.

The main physical and chemical properties: tablets of 1,500,000 IU: biconvex, round, from white to creamy-white in color, covered with a shell, embossed RPR 107 on one side; 3,000,000 IU tablets: biconvex, round, cream-white, film-coated, engraved ROVA 3 on one side.

Pharmacological properties

Spiramycin is a macrolide antibiotic that has a bactericidal effect.

Indications

Rovamicin tablets is a macrolide antibiotic with a bacteriostatic effect. Prescribed for the treatment of infections and inflammatory processes of the upper and lower respiratory tract, which are caused by bacteria sensitive to it (streptococci, meningococci, meningococci, leptospira, campylobacter, Staphylococcus aureus, ureaplasma), as well as moderately sensitive to spiramycin bacterium bacteria.
It should be noted that Pseudomonas bacteria, enterobacteria, and methicillin-resistant staphylococci are insensitive to it. It is active against pneumonia caused by atypical microorganisms.
It is used to treat diseases of the skin (erysipelas, abscesses, phlegmon), venereal diseases (chlamydia, toxoplasmosis, syphilis, gonorrhea), as well as diseases caused by non-gonococcal infections, and which the genitourinary system is susceptible to.

Contraindications

It is forbidden for use in case of an allergic reaction of the body to one of the components of the drug. Also not applicable if the patient suffers from severe liver disease.
Rovamicin is not combined, that is, it is not used concomitantly with drugs that cause flutter or fibrillation of the myocardial ventricles, including some antiarrhythmic drugs. Also incompatible with neuroleptics, nondihydropyridine calcium channel blockers, beta-adrenergic blockers, erythromycin, sultopride, cisapride, vincamine, clondine.

Application during pregnancy and lactation

It has no contraindications when administered to pregnant women or nursing mothers.

Method of administration and dosage

Due to the high efficiency of the drug, it does not require long-term use. Usually, a 5-day intake is sufficient to combat fairly severe infections. In particular, when using the tablet form, a maximum of 3 million IU is prescribed from two to three times a day, while the daily dose does not exceed 9 million IU. If it is necessary to use this drug in order to prevent meningitis infection, it is enough to take 3 million twice a day, also for five days.

Overdose

Overdose usually causes dyspeptic disorders, with infusion, complications of the cardiovascular system are possible, in particular, the Q – T interval may be lengthened. Treatment of symptoms is recommended.

Side effects

Pain in the epigastrium, reactions from the gastrointestinal tract in the form of nausea, vomiting, sometimes an allergic reaction. Pseudomembranous colitis, phlebitis, hemolytic anemia may develop, and the level of transaminases may increase.
