Composition
active substances: 1 capsule contains: valerian rhizomes with roots of thick extract (Valerianae radix cum radicibus) (1:2.5) (extractant – ethanol 40%) 0.1 g, motherwort grass extract thick (Leonuri herba) (1:3 ,0) (extractant – ethanol 40%) 0.06 g, hawthorn fruit extract thick (Сrataegi fructus) (1:1.7) (extractant – ethanol 70%) 0.06 g;
excipients: heavy magnesium carbonate, potato starch, povidone, talc, magnesium stearate.

Main physical and chemical properties: solid cylindrical gelatin capsules with a brown body and lid. The contents of the capsules are greenish-gray, gray or brownish-gray to grayish-green or grayish-brown in color.

Pharmacological properties
This drug belongs to the group of natural remedies, which are used as a hypnotic and sedative, mainly in the complex treatment of diseases associated with increased excitation of the nervous system.
The active components of the drug are extracts of valerian, motherwort, hawthorn. These drugs have long been used in traditional medicine.
The sedative properties of these plants are explained by the presence in them of a rich complex of various components – stachydrins, essential oils, steroid glycosides, ascorbic acid, saponins, bitterness, and mineral salts.
In general, the effect of the drug is similar to that of valerian. It effectively treats cardiovascular diseases, and is also used for the prevention of such diseases. The substances that make up the motherwort herb produce an antispasmodic, analgesic, hypotensive, sedative, diuretic, carminative, cardiotonic effect.
Has the ability to reduce pressure, slow breathing, reduce the number of myocardial contractions, suppress fears, improve the quality of sleep. Increase endurance with a lack of oxygen, help lower blood cholesterol levels.
Indications
Most often, this drug Sedafiton Forte capsules is used in the complex treatment of diseases of the nervous system, acts as a sedative, relieves nervous tension, convulsions.
In particular, they are used for:
- increased nervous excitability, with neurasthenia, depression, during stress;
- neuroses of a cardiovascular nature;
- early stages of arterial hypertension;
- mild insomnia, sleep disturbances;
- during menopause, with asthenia.

Contraindications
The drug Sedafiton Forte capsules in question is contraindicated for use in cases where the patient has severe hypersensitivity (allergy) to the main or to one of the auxiliary components.
Also contraindicated in arterial hypotension and bradycardia.
It should be borne in mind that taking motherwort enhances the pharmaceutical effect of hypnotics, analgesics, cardiac glycosides, antihypertensive drugs, alcohol.
It is not used in pediatrics until the age of 12.
Application during pregnancy and lactation
This drug is contraindicated for pregnant women and during lactation.
Its use promotes the stimulation of smooth muscles in the uterus. For this reason, it is dangerous to use it during pregnancy. this can lead to premature birth or spontaneous abortion.
Method of administration and dosage
The drug Sedafiton Forte capsules is used orally, three or four times a day, 1 capsule, depending on the doctor’s prescription.
You can take a dose 2-3 times a day. For milder forms of insomnia, it is recommended to take 1 capsule 60 minutes before going to bed.
It should be noted that the safe daily dose is no more than 3 capsules during the day.
The duration and correction of the dosage and duration of admission, the expediency of repeated courses of treatment is determined by the doctor individually.
The patient should consult a doctor if the symptoms of the disease did not disappear during the use of the medicinal product or if adverse reactions are observed that are not indicated in the instructions for medical use of the medicinal product.
Overdose
Overdose may cause some side effects. In particular:
- dizziness, drowsiness, lethargy;
- constriction in the chest, bradycardia or tachycardia, lowering blood pressure;
- mental agitation.
In case of an overdose, immediately rinse the stomach, take enterosorbents.
Side effects

The use of this drug may occasionally cause allergic side reactions, in particular, such as:
- allergic urticaria, itching, rash, hyperemia;
- nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, angioedema;
- peripheral edema, shortness of breath, headache;
- dyspeptic symptoms.
Reactions from the nervous system may also occur – dizziness, drowsiness, a feeling of fatigue, decreased performance, memory acuity, mnemonic abilities.
If side effects occur, the drug should be discontinued, symptomatic therapy should be undertaken, consult a doctor and the treatment regimen should be adjusted.
