Composition

active substance: 1 tablet contains sodium picosulfate in terms of anhydrous substance 7.5 mg;

excipients: lactose monohydrate; potato starch; povidone; magnesium stearate.

Pharmacological properties

This drug Slabilax tablets belongs to a group of drugs used in gastroenterology as a laxative.
The main active ingredient of the drug is sodium picosulfate. This substance, which has laxative properties, belongs to the triarylmethane group.
Due to the metabolic processes that occur after the drug enters the body in the large intestine, due to its action, the absorption of fluids is slowed down, and the production of water and the release of electrolytes also increases.
As a result, stool softening occurs, which also increases their volume, and produces additional stimulation of peristalsis in the intestine.
Sodium picosulfate has a low absorption, little absorbed when it enters the intestine. Some partial absorption occurs only after the bacterial breakdown of the substance occurs. Absorption occurs when the drug enters the colon, then conjugation occurs and then the drug is excreted with the help of the intestine along with the secreted bile.

Indications

This drug Slabilax tablets is used to treat:

• constipation;
• other conditions requiring easier bowel movement (bowel movements).

Contraindication

Hypersensitivity to the active substance, other triarylmethanes or to any of the excipients; intestinal obstruction; severe painful and / or febrile diseases of the abdominal organs (eg appendicitis), potentially associated with nausea and vomiting; acute inflammatory bowel disease; severe dehydration; rare hereditary intolerance to any of the excipients, for example there is a possibility of undiagnosed lactose intolerance.

Application during pregnancy and lactation

This drug is undesirable for the treatment of pregnant women – only with serious indications for this.
If it is necessary to take the drug during breastfeeding, lactation is suspended.

Method of application and dosage

Adults – 1 tablet (7.5 mg) 1 time per day. Slabilax-Health should be taken at night. After application of the drug, bowel movements occur in 10-12 hours. Slabilaks-Zdorovya should not be used daily or for a long period of time without establishing the cause of constipation. The maximum daily dose of 7.5 mg should not be exceeded.

Children

Do not apply.

Overdose

Overdose cases have not been recorded at the moment.
Excessive intake of the drug causes:

• excessive liquefaction of stool, diarrhea;
• intestinal cramps;
• clinically significant loss of electrolytes, potassium;
• chronic diarrhea.

Symptomatic treatment is recommended – to flush the stomach, induce vomiting, ensure sufficient fluid intake into the body, take enterosorbents, antispasmodics, astringents.

Side effects

The drug is usually well tolerated. Side effects may occur in the form of:

• hypersensitivity reactions, including angioedema;
• rash, allergic urticaria, itching;
• abdominal cramps, diarrhea, flatulence;
• discomfort in the gastrointestinal tract.
