Description
Streptocid (sulfanilamide) ointment 5 % 25 g. tube
Composition
active substance: sulfanilamide (streptocide) – 50 mg;
Excipients: purified fish oil for external use, butylhydroxyanisole (E 320), emulsifier № 1, polysorbate-80 or sodium carboxymethylcellulose purified, purified water;
excipients that are part of the emulsifier №1: cetyl alcohol, stearyl alcohol.
Dosage form
Ointment.
Basic physical and chemical properties: homogeneous dense mass of white or light yellow color.

Pharmacological properties
The drug has antimicrobial effects on streptococci and other microorganisms. Streptocide disrupts the process of assimilation by the microbial cell of its growth factors – folic, dihydrofolic acids and other compounds that contain paraaminobenzoic acid (PABA). Due to the similarity of the chemical structure of PABA and sulfonamide, the latter as a competitive antagonist of the acid is involved in the metabolism of microorganisms and disrupts it.
Indications
Streptocid ointment 5 % with a pronounced antimicrobial effect, intended for external use, in particular, for the treatment of pyoderma, skin ulcers, erysipelas (an infectious disease that occurs in both acute and chronic forms, caused by a type of streptococcus, characterized by serous or serous-hemorrhagic inflammation skin, fever, intoxication of the body), burns, wounds and cracks in the skin, as well as other purulent and inflammatory skin lesions.
The most active against streptococci. Has the ability to disrupt the assimilation of growth factors of microbial cells. It also destroys the metabolism inside the cell of the microorganism, which stops the growth and development of pathogenic strains.
Contraindications
It is not used for allergies to sulfonamides, as well as for impaired renal function, for acute porphyria (impaired pigment metabolism, liver function, production of blood cells).
Due to the increased risk of an allergic reaction, intolerance is not used in pediatric practice. Hands should be washed thoroughly after use to avoid contact with mucous membranes, especially in the eye area.
Application during pregnancy and lactation
Contraindicated.
Method of administration and dosage
The place of application of the Streptocid ointment 5 % should be pre-cleaned, wash your hands.
The Streptocid ointment is applied in a thin layer. Do not rub it into your skin. After applying the drug, you must wash your hands again to avoid getting the drug on the mucous membranes.
The duration of therapy and the frequency with which the ointment is applied are strictly individual and depends on the course of the disease, the patient’s response to its use,
Overdose
No cases of overdose with this drug have been reported in medical practice. Avoid contact with mucous membranes, as this can cause irritation up to hyperemia of the membrane, irritation.
Side effects
Negative effects have been reported extremely rarely. All of them were associated with a reaction of intolerance to sulfa drugs, and were expressed in the form of hyperemia, itching, urticaria, irritation at the site of application.
In rare cases, the reactions were more active – so much so that they required discontinuation of the drug.
Since, when applied topically, the drug does not enter the systemic circulation, it does not have a negative effect on the organs and systems of the body, the performance of their functions, and the blood composition.
