Scientific Evidence
Atorvastatin, the active ingredient in Tolevas tablets, is a potent inhibitor of HMG-CoA reductase, the enzyme responsible for the synthesis of cholesterol in the liver. Clinical trials have demonstrated the efficacy of atorvastatin in reducing LDL cholesterol levels and decreasing the risk of cardiovascular events. A study published in the New England Journal of Medicine showed that atorvastatin significantly reduced the incidence of major cardiovascular events in patients with coronary heart disease.
Additional Information
- Pharmacological Effects: Atorvastatin works by inhibiting the enzyme HMG-CoA reductase, which plays a key role in cholesterol synthesis. By lowering LDL cholesterol levels and increasing HDL cholesterol levels, atorvastatin helps reduce the risk of atherosclerosis and cardiovascular events.
- Clinical Trials: Several large-scale clinical trials, such as the ASCOT-LLA study and the TNT study, have demonstrated the efficacy of atorvastatin in reducing cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. These trials have established atorvastatin as a cornerstone therapy for the prevention of cardiovascular diseases.
