Description
Travatan (travoprost) eye drops 40 mcg/ml. 2.5 ml. vial
Composition
active substance: travoprost; 1 ml of solution contains 40 mcg of travoprost;
Excipients: polyquad, polyethoxylated castor oil, hydrogenated, boric acid, mannitol (E 421), sodium chloride, propylene glycol, sodium hydroxide and / or concentrated hydrochloric acid (for pH adjustment), purified water.
Dosage form
Eye drops.
Main physical and chemical properties: clear solution from colorless to slightly yellow.
Pharmacotherapeutic group
Means for use in ophthalmology. Antiglaucoma drugs and miotics. Prostaglandin analogues. ATC code S01E E04.
Pharmacological properties
The specified drug belongs to a group of drugs used in ophthalmology for the treatment of glaucoma.
The drug is a miotic, an analogue of F2-prostaglandin.
The active substance is its full selective agonist, with a high degree of affinity with the FP-receptors of prostaglandin.
The drug lowers intraocular hypertension, increases the outflow of fluid along the trabecular meshwork and uveoscleral pathway.
The hypotensive effect is observed within 2 hours after using the product. The best result is observed after 12 hours.
A significant decrease in pressure inside the eyes after using a single dose persists for more than 24 hours. Combination therapy with timolol 0.5% and brimonidine 0.2% potentiates the effect of the described drug.
The research results indicate blood flow to the optic nerve after 7 days of drug use.
Indications
The drug Travatan is prescribed to reduce intraocular pressure in ocular hypertension or open-angle glaucoma.
Contraindications
The drug in question is contraindicated for use in cases where the patient has severe hypersensitivity (allergy) to the main or to one of the auxiliary components.
The drug is not used in pediatrics.
Application during pregnancy and lactation
This drug is not recommended for pregnant women – only for strict indications determined by the attending physician.
If it is necessary to take the drug during breastfeeding, lactation is suspended.
Women of childbearing age should use contraceptive methods while using the drug.
Method of administration and dosage
The drug Travatan is used 1 drop in the conjunctival sac of the affected eye 1 time per day. The best effect is achieved when the drug is administered in the evening.
After instillation, nasolacrimal occlusion or light eyelid closure is recommended.
When using more than one ophthalmic agent for topical application, the time interval should be at least 5 minutes.
Overdose
In case of local drug overdose, rinse the eye with warm water.
If medication is accidentally swallowed, symptomatic and supportive therapy is performed.
Side effects
The drug is usually well tolerated if used in the recommended doses and the regimen is followed.
Allergy may occur in case of individual intolerance. In particular, there may be observed:
- herpetic keratitis;
- headache;
- acupuncture keratitis, precipitates in the anterior chamber of the eye, opalescence in the anterior chamber of the eye, eye pain, photophobia, discharge from the eye, sensation of discomfort in the eye, eye irritation, abnormal sensitivity of the eyes, sensation of a foreign body in the eye, decreased visual acuity, blurred vision, dry eyes, itchy eyes, increased lacrimation, erythema of the eyelids, edema of the eyelids, itching of the eyelids, eyelash growth, eyelash discoloration;
- irregular heart rate, increased heart rate, decreased heart rate;
- lowering blood pressure, increasing blood pressure, arterial hypotension or hypertension.
