Scientific Evidence
Benzoyl peroxide, the active ingredient in Ugresol lotion, has been extensively studied for its efficacy in treating acne. Research published in the Journal of Clinical and Aesthetic Dermatology has shown that benzoyl peroxide is effective in reducing inflammatory and non-inflammatory acne lesions.
Additional Information
It is important to note that benzoyl peroxide may cause skin dryness, peeling, and irritation, especially during the initial weeks of treatment. It is recommended to start with a lower concentration and gradually increase as tolerated. Consult a healthcare provider if severe irritation occurs.
Pharmacological Effects: Benzoyl peroxide exerts its action by releasing oxygen free radicals, which have antibacterial properties and help to unclog pores. This leads to a reduction in acne-causing bacteria and inflammation on the skin.
Clinical Trials: Clinical trials have demonstrated the efficacy of benzoyl peroxide in the treatment of acne, with significant improvements in acne severity and lesion count compared to placebo. One study published in the Journal of Drugs in Dermatology showed a 60% reduction in inflammatory lesions after 12 weeks of treatment with benzoyl peroxide.
