Composition

active ingredients: extract from the roots of Pelargonium sidoides (sedum pelargonium) (1: 8-10), extractant: ethanol 11% (m / m);

1 g of solution contains 800 mg of an extract from the roots of Pelargonium sidoides (sedum pelargonium) (1:8-10), extractant: ethanol 11% (m/m);

excipient: glycerin 85%.

Pharmacological properties

This drug Umcalor oral solution belongs to a group of drugs that affect the respiratory system.
The preparation contains an extract from the roots of Pelargonium sidoides.
The medicine helps to suppress the symptoms of an infectious disease, and also exhibits an antioxidant effect.
In the course of various studies, the ability of the drug to stimulate the frequency of contraction of the ciliated epithelium, modulate the synthesis of interferon and pro-inflammatory cytokines, stimulate the activity of NK cells, phagocytes, the expression of adhesion of molecules, chemotaxis.
The drug has moderate direct antibacterial and antiviral properties.
The active substance has pronounced cytoprotective properties: suppression of leukocyte elastase.

Indications

Umcalor oral solution is prescribed for the treatment of the following diseases:

• bronchitis;
• sinusitis;
• tonsillar sore throat;
• rhinopharyngitis.

Contraindications

The drug in question is contraindicated for use in cases where the patient has severe hypersensitivity (allergy) to the main or to one of the auxiliary components.
The drug is contraindicated for use with:

• increased tendency to bleeding,
  taking medications that slow down the blood clotting process;
• severe liver and kidney disease.

In pediatrics, the drug is used after 1 year.

Application during pregnancy and lactation

This drug is not recommended for pregnant women – only under strict indications determined by the attending physician.
If it is necessary to take the drug during breastfeeding, lactation is suspended.

Method of administration and dosage

The drug is taken with a small amount of liquid half an hour before meals 3 times a day.
In the acute stage of the disease, as a rule, it is prescribed for adults and children over 12 years old – 30 drops 3 times a day; children aged 6 to 12 years – 20 drops 3 times a day; children aged 1 to 6 years – 10 drops 3 times a day.
In order to prevent relapses and subsequent treatment of chronic diseases, adults and children over 12 years old – 10-20 drops 3 times a day.
The course of treatment of acute illness and prevention of relapse, on average, is 7-10 days. The duration of treatment should not exceed 21 days.
The bottle is held vertically, if necessary, lightly tap on its bottom.

Overdose

There is no information on overdose cases. An increase in adverse reactions is expected.

Side effects

The drug is usually well tolerated when used in the recommended doses.
Allergy may occur in case of individual intolerance. In particular, it can be observed:

• violation of the digestive tract (stomach pain, heartburn, nausea, diarrhea);
• slight bleeding of the gums;
• weak nosebleeds;
• hypersensitivity reactions (rash, urticaria, itching of the skin and mucous membranes);
• in rare cases, severe hypersensitivity reactions with facial edema, shortness of breath and a decrease in blood pressure are possible);
• increased liver function indicators.
