Scientific Evidence
Diclofenac is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that works by inhibiting the production of prostaglandins, which are substances in the body that cause pain and inflammation. Studies have shown that topical diclofenac formulations are effective in providing pain relief and reducing inflammation in various musculoskeletal conditions. Research published in the Journal of Clinical Rheumatology demonstrated the efficacy of diclofenac gel in managing osteoarthritis pain with a favorable safety profile.
Additional Information
Diclofenac gel is generally well-tolerated when used as directed. However, it may cause skin irritation or allergic reactions in some individuals. Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes. Consult a healthcare professional before using diclofenac gel if you have a history of stomach ulcers, kidney problems, or are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Pharmacological studies have shown that diclofenac exerts its anti-inflammatory effects by inhibiting cyclooxygenase enzymes, thereby reducing the production of inflammatory mediators. This mechanism of action makes diclofenac gel an effective treatment for localized pain and inflammation.
Clinical trials comparing diclofenac gel with other topical NSAIDs have demonstrated similar efficacy in managing pain associated with musculoskeletal conditions. A study published in the Journal of Pain Research found that diclofenac gel provided significant pain relief and improved functional outcomes in patients with knee osteoarthritis compared to placebo.
