Composition

active ingredients: 1 ml of drops contains: valerian tincture (tinctura Valerianae) (1: 5) (extractant – ethanol 70%) – 0.34 ml, hawthorn tincture (tinctura Сrataegi) (1:10) (extractant – ethanol 70%) – 0.33 ml, hawthorn tincture (tinctura Leonuri) (1: 5) (extractant – ethanol 70%) – 0.33 ml.

Dosage form

Oral drops.

Main physical and chemical properties: liquid from yellowish-brown to brownish-brown color with the smell of valerian. Sediment may form during storage.

Pharmacological properties

Tricardin oral drops belongs to the group of drugs on a natural basis, which are used as a hypnotic and sedative, mainly in the complex treatment of diseases associated with increased excitation of the nervous system.
The active components of the drug – extracts of valerian, motherwort, hawthorn. These drugs have long been used in traditional medicine.
The calming properties of these plants are due to the presence in them of a rich complex of various components – stahydrin, essential oils, steroid glycosides, ascorbic acid, saponins, bitterness, mineral salts.
In general, the action of the drug is similar to the action of valerian. Effectively treats cardiovascular diseases, and will also be used for the prevention of such diseases. Substances that are part of the motherwort herb, produce antispasmodic, analgesic, antihypertensive, sedative, diuretic, carminative, cardiotonic effect.
Has the ability to reduce pressure, slow down breathing, reduce the number of myocardial contractions, suppress fears, improve sleep quality. Increase endurance in the absence of oxygen, help lower blood cholesterol.

Indications

Most often, this drug is used in the complex treatment of diseases of the nervous system, acts as a sedative, relieves nervous tension, cramps.
In particular, apply at:

  • increased nervous excitability, neurasthenia, depression, during stress;
  • cardiovascular neuroses;
  • early stages of arterial hypertension;
  • insomnia in a mild form, sleep disorders;
  • during menopause, with asthenia.

Contraindications

The drug in question is contraindicated in cases where the patient has a pronounced hypersensitivity (allergy) to the main or to one of the auxiliary components.
Also contraindicated in hypotension and bradycardia, alcoholism, gastric or duodenal ulcer.
It should be borne in mind that the reception of motherwort enhances the pharmaceutical effect of sleeping pills, analgesics, cardiac glycosides, antihypertensive drugs, alcohol.
It is not used in pediatrics until the age of 12.

Use during pregnancy and breastfeeding

This drug is contraindicated for use during pregnancy and lactation.
Its use helps to stimulate smooth muscles in the uterus. For this reason, it is dangerous to use it during pregnancy, because this can lead to premature birth or miscarriage.

Method of application and dose

Tricardin oral drops is administered orally, 20-30 drops, depending on the doctor’s prescription.
You can take the dose 3 times a day. It is preferable to take the drug on an empty stomach.
Children older than 12 years take a dosage of 1 drop for 1 year of life.
The duration and correction of the dosage and duration of administration, the appropriateness of repeated courses of treatment is determined by the doctor individually.
The patient should consult a physician if the symptoms of the disease have not disappeared during the use of the drug or there are side effects not listed in the instructions for medical use of the drug.

Overdose

An overdose can cause some side effects. In particular:

  • dizziness, drowsiness, lethargy;
  • chest tightness, bradycardia or tachycardia, decreased blood pressure;
  • mental arousal.

In case of overdose, the stomach should be rinsed immediately, and enterosorbents should be taken.

Side effects

The use of this drug occasionally can cause allergic side effects, in particular, such as:

  • allergic urticaria, itching, rash, redness;
  • nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, angioneurotic edema;
  • peripheral edema, shortness of breath, headache;
  • dyspeptic phenomena.

There may also be reactions from the nervous system – dizziness, drowsiness, fatigue, decreased performance, memory acuity, mnemonic abilities.
If side effects occur, the drug should be discontinued, symptomatic therapy should be instituted, a physician should be consulted and the treatment regimen adjusted.
