Turpentine (oil turpentine) ointment 20% 30 g. tube

Composition

active substance: purified turpentine oil;

1 g of ointment contains 0.2 g of refined turpentine oil;

auxiliary substances: white soft paraffin, purified water, emulsifier T-2.

Dosage form

Ointment.

Main physicochemical properties: white ointment with a yellowish tint with the smell of turpentine. The appearance of the ointment should be homogeneous.

Pharmacological properties

Turpentine ointment has a distracting, weak anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and analgesic effect. The distracting action is associated with the ability to penetrate the epidermis and cause reflex changes due to irritation of skin receptors. The release of biologically active substances from the skin, in particular histamine, also plays a certain role.

Indication

Neuralgia, myositis, arthritis.

Contraindication

Severe kidney and liver diseases, skin diseases of various genesis, increased sensitivity to the drug.

Interaction with other medicinal products and other types of interactions.

Turpentine ointment is chemically incompatible with iodine solution.

Features of application

Do not allow the ointment to get on the mucous membranes and in the eyes! If the ointment accidentally gets into the eyes, they should be thoroughly washed with plenty of running water.

Do not apply to damaged areas of the skin.

Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding

During pregnancy or breastfeeding, the use of the drug is contraindicated.

The ability to influence the speed of reaction when driving vehicles or other mechanisms

Care should be taken when driving vehicles or working with other mechanisms, considering the possibility of side reactions of a generalized nature.

Method of application and dosage

Turpentine ointment should be used by adults externally to rub painful areas 2-3 times a day.

The duration of use depends on the course of the disease.

It is necessary to consult a doctor if the symptoms of the disease do not disappear during the use of the drug or if any side reactions occur.

Children

There is no experience of using the medicine in children, so the ointment is not recommended for use in this category of patients.

Overdose

It is possible to develop hypersensitivity to the drug, increased side effects.

Adverse reactions

With increased sensitivity to the drug, allergic reactions of a local nature may appear (including itching, swelling, reddening of the skin, burning, rash). In some cases, allergic reactions of a generalized nature may appear (nausea, rapid heartbeat, decrease in blood pressure, dizziness, convulsions, loss of consciousness).
